In this article, we want to learn some useful tips when using PowerPoint for presentation.
1- Connect the laptop to the screen
Now we want to assess how to plug the laptop to the screen. The most typical way is HDMI Cable which is like this, in the picture. You can plug it into your laptop and then the screen. It’s almost one of the most advanced tools.
The next one is VGA or RGB Cable. Another wire is Thunderbolt Cable which is mostly used for Apple and Surface laptops. Depending on the type of your Apple and its version it might BE USB type C or other things.
Some screens are wireless, so you have to connect to a network in specific methods. If you don’t have enough info about them, you can easily google it because there are many devices and each has its descriptions and methods of usage.
They mostly have their correct instructions with them that you simply can follow them.
The most important thing is that you REALLY need converters. You have to know what ports your laptop can support. For example, HDMI Cable or Thunderbolt or even maybe all of them. You have to buy a converter based on the model of your laptop.
For instance, if you have my laptop, MacBook Air 2015, you need to have some converters: Thunderbolt to VGA, Thunderbolt to HDMI.
If you want to present with your cell phone, mine is Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I need to use the converter of USB type C to HDMI or VGA. So converters are essential.
2- Free download music
One of the tips when using PowerPoint for presentation is to know that playing music would be so helpful for the learning process of listeners so I am gonna introduce you to some free music resource.
Let’s look at a list of free music websites:
Here is where you can download some free music to use them into your slides to actually make an impressive presentation.
Imagine you are in a presentation and something goes wrong with your laptop. Your files and PowerPoint slides are gone. Now you may get nervous but if you have your backups, you can easily use them without being stressful.
Considering all these tips I’ve told you, your laptop might not connect. The hard drive may damage, someone could have changed your password and other problems. So we have to have backups.
Another one of tips when using PowerPoint for presentation is to have backups. One backup is PDF. You have to have a PDF file for your PowerPoint presentation because your PowerPoint might not work for any reason. Second, you need to email your PowerPoint file to yourself. Third, you better have another USB. And the fourth is the Dropbox.
Some might laugh and say take it easy but believe me they all are necessary. Besides all that, you have to have a printed PDF too so that nothing goes wrong.
4- Desktop background
What is your background? It shouldn’t be a funny picture or a personal one because at any moment the PowerPoint can shut down and your background will appear. So we have to change it.
5- Desktop files
If your desktop is a mess, it’s better to organize them. Like I do, you can create a folder named “all others” or anything you like and move your files there to this one.
6- Music playlist
You need to be careful about your Music playlist. They might not be appropriate for that situation and it might play by accident or any other reason. So you need to be careful, nothing can go wrong.
These 6 tips when using PowerPoint for presentation may seem funny or simple for you but they are the ones that you may forget while you’re getting ready for the big day. So consider them each time so that it sticks to your mind!
