What is learning? And how can we learn better?
I am sure you are waiting to see the definition of learning. I was too when I started working in this major. There are many definitions of learning based on how many philosophers, professionals, and psychologists. But I have a different method to teach you how to learn faster.
Learning is gaining knowledge and changing the behavior and emotions at the same time.
Different kinds of learning
The first question that occurs to you is:
What do you want to learn?
Do you want to learn a new skill? Such as public speaking, painting, playing a musical instrument, etc.
The true way of learning it is to practice, practice, and practice.
But how much practice?
Only 20 hours!!!
Are 20 hours enough to learn a new skill?
I suggest you see this video to believe that 20 hours can be enough.
This video shows us that 20 hours of practice is enough to learn a new skill.
Two things matter in these 20 hours of practice:
1- The resource and institutes
2- The methods must be effective and correct.
It means if you don’t pay attention to the resources and references and choose the wrong ones, these 20 hours won’t be beneficial. For example, if you are interested in learning how to be a public speaker, you can easily use the articles in this website.
Do you want to learn your subjects better at school (university, meetings, workshops, etc.)?
You only need to do one thing:
Learn your memory language
If I want to explain our brain function, I have to say that the inputs are like the synapse of your brain or the veins of leaves, because your brain can accept the data, learn and remember better this way.
Now how can we change data into synapses? With the help of a mind map.
One of the best solutions to transfer our database to our memory language is using the mind map method. There are black and white mind maps too, but if you use notes and write them in different colors, you can learn five times more.
Making a mind map should be in a clockwork style. You can start at 2 o’clock to 10 o’clock. This way, you can learn better. The mind map doesn’t have to have more than five main branches.
Do you want to learn how to communicate?
Learning communication skills is similar to public speaking skills, but there is a big difference, which is: you practice communication skills in your daily life. Most people have issues with it:
1- They don’t know so much about themselves, and can’t control their behaviors.
People like to consider themselves a sacrifice to external factors. They think they are weak and can’t control their lives. They imagine someone else is controlling them from the outside, their thoughts, decisions, emotions. However, based on the choice theory (William Glasser), all our behavior come from our inside.
It means we may not be able to control what happens in our life, but we are free in our actions and reaction to those events.
2- There is not a proper education for choosing the right behavior.
One of the biggest problems is not knowing how to learn, how to control anger, or not to be shy.
For example, we mostly don’t know how to react in these situations:
– How to say no when someone asks me something irrelevant?
– How to stand before someone who is stealing our salary and being cruel?

We have to ask ourselves: what do I want to learn?
What is my purpose of learning this skill?
So I have to practice for advantageous 20 hours. It doesn’t mean I will be a master in my chosen skill, but I know it can be accepted after a 20-hour practice.
Do I want to learn my subjects? I have to learn how to use mind maps. We have to change the data and lessons to our memory language and mind maps can help us in this matter.
I suggest you draw a mind map for every simple thing you learn from this moment.
Do I want to learn how to communicate?
First I have to know that I am free to behave however I want and I have many choices. Then I have to look for the correct reaction to that challenge.
