What is introversion and who is introvert? What is introvert personality?
Most of us don’t know what introversion is and how to talk to an introverted. It causes some serious issues. So we decided to present some explanations about the personal method, person recognition, and effective communication.
First, I want to introduce a book in this field named the art of speedreading people by Paul Tieger and Barbara Tieger. This book is about personal recognition which explains it directly. One of its topics is about introversion and extroversion which concludes a quarter of its entire content.
What is introversion
Let me explain its definition.
Introversion and extroversion are under the impression of preference that how can someone gain his energy? From communication with other people or being lonely?
This preference is essential because it makes most of our behaviors. If you want to know you are an introvert or extrovert, you need to answer this question:
Communicate with other people?
Or being alone?
Extroverted have more energy when they communicate with others. On the contrary, an introvert personality is preferring to use their own experiences and knowledge. (in other words, introverted focus on their inside to find the answers).
Introvert personality is to focus on stuff all by themselves while extroverted prefer teamwork and cooperation.
Method and ways to do a task is a good factor that shows their differences. For example, extroverted always open the door when they are at their room, and introverts prefer to close it to prevent outsider distractions.
Barbara Tiger simulate introversion and extroversion to a battery: extroverted battery charges when they are around people while introverted battery drains in the crowd! In other words, the actions that give energy to extroverted can take it away from introverted!!
Imagine you were invited to a party. They call you and inform you that it’s been canceled. What is the result?
Introvert personality says: Hooray, I have to stay at home again.
Extrovert personality says: oh, no. I have to stay at home again.
Introverted prefer to know about something profound and be an expert about it, but extroverted prefer to know about everything (even a little bit).
A fascinating point about these two types and the way they work is that extroverted are swift (especially in decision-making). On the contrary, introverted is slow. Extroverted act first and think later. Introverted think first and act later.
I hope you can figure out which type you are now with my explanations.
What characteristics does an introverted have?
Now that you have an acceptable recognition of these two types let’s go to their general characteristics.
The most important thing is that no one has all the characteristics together. These are introvert personality but they might have some of them.
1- They prefer loneliness
2- They don’t like public and crowded places
3- They have a high concentration
4- They mostly love reading
5- They want to write their diary
6- Privacy and personal information is important to them
7- They have few friends but deep relationships.
Introverted is not depressed
Unfortunately, most people in the world don’t know much about introversion, so they think introverted (especially children) is depressed. Some people who haven’t read much, consider depressed persons out of their introvert personality. Both of these interpretations are dangerous.
Introverted is not depressed! Depression has its definition. An introverted has different preferences: They enjoy being lonely and they want a deep connection with fewer friends.
So be careful not to misunderstand these two topics.
Is it a bad thing to be an introvert?
Of course not! It’s like being a left-handed!
Sadly, because introvert personality is to communicate less, people don’t see their behaviors. It is why they might consider their characteristics, inappropriate. I assure you this misunderstanding will fade off the face of the earth soon enough and people will know how significant the introverts can be.
How many people are introverts?
Researches show that almost one-third of people are introvert, but people do not see them because they don’t express themselves very much.
So whether you have an introvert personality or there are introvert people around you, in both ways you can learn their behavior and be more sympathetic to them.
Do not make an excuse out of introversion and extroversion
It’s essential that our preference in gaining energy won’t make us irresponsible. For example, introverts are not willing to communicate but this can’t prevent them from communicating at all.
On the other hand, extroverts do not have to spend so much time with others that they can’t have some time for themselves.
Famous introverted people
Many introverts in our world are famous. For example:
Steve Jobs (previous owner of Apple Company)
Albert Einstein (one of the greatest Physicist)
Mahatma Gandhi (Leader of India)
Warren Buffett (one of the wealthiest persons in the world)
Are the introverted bad speakers?
If you think someone can not be a good speaker because he is an introvert, think again. In the list we mentioned, there are two famous speakers. People who changed the world with their public speaking! One of them is Steve Jobs that I strongly suggest you see his presentations and the other is Gandhi who has also an introvert personality. As a result, you have to forget about this excuses and misunderstandings which prevent you from seeking the public speaking skills.
The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking
Susan Cain is introverted who has done many types of research on introversion. She wrote a book named “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking.”
In this book, she explains the powers of an introvert and the way they can change their lifestyle and be happier. I also suggest you watch her presentation in this video.
